This Is Us – Conroy Crew

Meet Tony – The steady hand behind our Brisbane depot

Tony is our man who keeps our Brisbane depot humming – even when things hit peak chaos during the busy season!

Tony joined Conroy in an unexpected twist of fate after being laid off during the 2020 COVID pandemic.

“Shannon, a mate of mine, suggested I come work in the warehouse,” Tony says. “What was supposed to be a short-term thing turned into two years moving furniture, and now I’m part of the operations team in Brisbane.”

Originally from Kurri Kurri in the Hunter Valley, Tony spent most of his career in sales and management, including 18 years at Yellow Pages and 8 years in the building industry. These days, he’s an essential part of the Conroy crew.

“Conroy’s is a great place to work – especially because of the people. It can be pretty full-on during the busy season, but you look back and think, ‘we did it.’ The number of containers we move around Australia is pretty incredible.”

We sat down with Tony to ask him five quick questions – and let’s just say, we discovered he’s a bit of a dark horse…

  1. Is there something we’d be surprised to learn about you? I used to racehorses through the bush in endurance gallops, anywhere from 5kms to 15kms.
  2. Best piece of advise you’ve ever received? You have two ears and one mouth, use them in proportion.
  3. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?  I have been lucky enough to travel the world extensively – Asia, Europe North and South America. I have just booked a trip to Portugal and the UK next year so I’m looking forward to that.
  4. If you could invite three people to dinner, dead or alive, who would they be? Robin Wiliams, Jim Morrison and Harold Holt – it would be good to know what really happened to him.
  5. What do you like to do in your spare time? I’m an avid golfer. I play competition every Saturday. I love going to see live music and horse racing.
