Aaron has been leading our busy Melbourne branch as Branch Manager for the past three years, bringing nearly three decades of experience in the removals industry.
Aaron’s career began the way many great ones do — by accident. While studying at university, he took a summer job as an offsider with a removals company. What started as a holiday job quickly turned into a long-term career. After completing his degree, Aaron moved into the office side of the business, and almost 30 years later he’s still passionate about the industry.
One of Aaron’s most memorable moves happened during the uncertainty of the COVID pandemic. His workplace received a last-minute request from an extended family in Australia who urgently needed to return to the United States before borders closed.
“It involved four 40ft high cube containers plus airfreight for sensitive electronic equipment and irreplaceable video footage. The logistics were challenging because the rules were changing almost daily, but it was incredibly rewarding to see everything come together and get the family home safely.”
For Aaron, the best thing about working at Conroy is the people.
“It’s not the most glamorous industry,” he says, “but we’re helping people during one of the more stressful times in their lives. To do that well, you need the right people at every stage — from the initial enquiry through to the move management and the crews on the ground. When everyone plays their part, it makes all the difference.”
Originally from New Zealand, Aaron is a Kiwi expat who has now completed two stints living in Australia. His first stay in Melbourne lasted 15 years before returning to Tauranga for five years. Three years ago, he and his family made the move back to Melbourne.
“The first time we moved here it was a spur-of-the-moment opportunity,” Aaron says. “This time it was more calculated. We love New Zealand, but we felt Australia offered more opportunities for our kids as they move into the next stages of their lives.”
